In order to fix this, the finish line needs to be changed from the delivery of great learning to the delivery of improved results. To keep the learning fresh in people’s minds, Cal came up with the concept of Friday Fives, which gets its name because it shows up on Fridays over a period of about twelve weeks. An end goal is set and the participants are asked three simple questions: – What actions have you taken this past week to make progress? – How much progress have you made? – What are you going to do next? The Fort Hill Company noticed that both leaders and managers were getting stuck on the question, “what am I going to do next?” To alleviate this hang-up, a number of functionalities were designed to facilitate learning follow-through: – Guide Me button: recommends future actions to the user; – Tell Me More: provides three to four paragraphs for information about the Guide Me tips; – Coaching functionality: allows people to receive advice on their reports via email; – Collaboration tool: allows users to stay connected to the people in their cohort, as well as track their progress; – An algorithm: lets users know whom else in their cohort is working on similar goals and who is making the best progress. This can help users mine best practices
